Despite what some consider it to be a waste of time, I find these naps rather beneficial
Heres why:
- Less Stress
- Increased Alertness and (in some way) Productivity
- Improved Memory and Learning
- Cardiovascular Benefits
- Increased Cognitive Functionings
- In a recent study, NASA researchers showed that a 30minute power nap increased cognitive functions by approximately 40% :) But then again that same study showed that a nap longer than 45minutes had no or in some cases a reverse effect.....<--i dont like that last part..
- Creativity Boost
- Makes up for lost sleep at Night (ehehehe....)
- It makes you less sleepy the next day (according to NASA)
- Better Health (apparently it maximises your body systems)
- and last, I'm told its supposed to provide motivation to exercise (but i dont exactly agree...)
Oh and i also found out there are terms to describe your naps depending on how long they were ><"
- Nano-nap - 10 to 20 seconds (i dont see the purpose of this...)
- i dont know why this even exist...
- Micro-nap - 2 to 5 minutes
- its been shown to be effective to shed tiredness really quickly...i think this is what happens during class...and you somehow feel reenergised
- Mini-nap - 5 to 20 minutes
- its supposed to increase alertness, stamina, motor learning and motor performance
- The 'Original' Power-nap - 20 to 50 minutes
- includes the benefits of micro- and mini- naps, but also improves muscle memory (good for piano :D) and clears the brain of random useless built-up info which in turn helps with longterm memory
- The Lazy Man's Nap - 50 to 90 minutes
- includes slow-wave plus REM sleep; good for improving perceptual processing; and if your body is flooded with HGH (human growth hormones) at the time you take this nap, it repairs bones and muscles...or so they claim...
